Mid-Week Inspiration: Wednesday, January 4, 2023
I preached a sermon about caring for the poor a few years back. I ended the message with a challenge to join me the following week to give out food boxes to the underprivileged.
A gentleman met me at the backdoor in our weekly ritual of shaking hands and saying our goodbyes. As he shook my hand, he looked me in the eye and said, “Preacher, I didn’t like your sermon. Not one bit!” And he walked down the steps of the church toward his car.
The following Saturday, I arrived at the church and noticed he was already helping unload the food boxes off the truck. I asked him, “What are you doing here? I thought you didn’t like my sermon?” He replied, “I didn’t. But that doesn’t mean you were not right. Now let’s get busy unloading these boxes of food.”
Sometimes the truth is hard to swallow.
As we begin a New Year, don’t be afraid of the truth, even if it is hard to hear. The truth will set you free.
