Meshach, Shadrach, and Abednego are fun names to say. They are the three Jewish boys in the Old Testament book of Daniel who refused to bow down to a false god.
The choice was to worship an idol or be thrown into a fiery furnace.
They chose a furnace of fire. Meshach, Shadrach, and Abednego were saved, of course, when the foreign king was unnerved by the presence of a fourth man inside the furnace and called the whole thing off.
The boys said to the king before being thrown to their fiery death, “If our God delivers us, let him deliver us. If not, let it be known; we will not worship at the golden statue.”
The lesson of the story is the stubborn devotion of the three boys to their God. If anything or anyone is asking you to give up a core value of yourself, there is a good chance that you are being put in a position to surrender to the idol or stay true to what you believe.
Let me encourage you to stay true to your core values and have confidence that the Lord goes with you.
