The story goes that there was a little old lady who would walk out on her front porch every morning and raise her hands and say, “Thank you, God!”
The neighbor next door would walk out on his front porch and say, “There is no God!’
One year in the middle of a harsh winter, the little old lady went out on her front porch and said, “I have no food in the fridge, but I will still give thanks to God for I know God provides!”
The neighbor said to himself, “I will go to the store and buy food for my neighbor and put it on her front door to prove to her there is no God.”
She came out to give thanks. The neighbor says, “There is no God. I provided the groceries!”
And she replied, “Thank you, Lord, for providing me with groceries and having someone else pay for them!”
Friends, it can still be a miracle, even if it comes through ordinary means. Some of God’s best blessings come in familiar ways, like a neighbor helping neighbor.
