Jamey's Newsletter: Sunday, November 12, 2023
The next time I see my cousin in late November, he will be Commander Dustin Smith, commander of the USS Pinckney on the West Coast.
The USS Pinckney is a U.S. Navy Arleigh Burke-class destroyer named after African American Officer Cook First Class William Pinckney (1915–1976). Pinckney was awarded the Navy Cross for heroically rescuing a crewmember of the aircraft carrier Enterprise during the Battle of Santa Cruz.
I look forward to seeing the change of command at the end of November.
November brings us to a significant and solemn day in the United States – Veterans Day. This day is dedicated to honoring the brave men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
On this day, we remember stories of valor and sacrifice. From the beaches of Normandy to the deserts of the Middle East, our veterans have faced incredible challenges and dangers. Each story forms an integral part of our nation’s history and character.
Thank you, Veterans.

Weekly Prayer
Heavenly Father, as we pause to reflect and give thanks for the sacrifices made by those who have served in our armed forces. We remember their courage, dedication, and selflessness as they protected our nation and its ideals.
We ask for Your blessings upon these brave men and women. Grant them peace and healing for the physical and emotional wounds they may carry. Provide comfort to their families who have also borne the weight of their service.
Please help us to honor their legacy by striving for peace and justice in our world. May we remember their service not just today but every day and work towards a future where such sacrifices are no longer necessary.
In Your loving name, we pray. Amen.
