My wife did not marry me for my romantic intuition.
However, one particular Valentine’s Day, my lovey-dovey sixth sense was at its peak, and I decided to go over and above the typical flowers and chocolate.
On my way home from the office, I picked up a frozen pizza and ice cream. Fanciful, I know!
I knew she would be home late. So I cleaned the house, including the bathrooms.
I ran her bathwater. The water got cold. I boiled water on the stove, carried it upstairs, and filled the tub. It was peeling the skin off of a potato hot!
I then turned my attention to finding every candle I could locate in the house. I put them in all the right places. I did not consider that the candles were scented. Depending on where you were in the house, it smelled like apple pie, the beach, or cinnamon Christmas.
Oh, and by the way, I am allergic to the perfume in scented candles. It is why we don’t burn them in the house. So, by the time she finally arrived home, the bathwater was cold, I burned the pizza, and the ice cream had melted because I had left it out on the counter. And I was asleep on the couch because I had taken Benadryl due to my eyes being swollen from the house smelling like Bath and Body Works had caught fire.
Good thing she married me for my good looks.
Happy Valentine’s Day!

Weekly Prayer
Loving God, I know that you are with me and love me.
I know that love is patient, but I found that hard last week when patience was asked of me. I know that love is not envious, but envy crept in when I saw my neighbor’s latest purchase. I know love doesn’t boast in wrongdoing, but it felt pretty good when the person who is constantly critical of my decision had his decision make life difficult for himself.
I know that love endures all things, but I am not sure it can endure the hurt I am living with.
I guess, Lord, I am saying that I find it difficult to be loving.
Help me to be conscious of those I need to love and grateful for those who love me.
Thank you for your love. Amen.
