In a Peanut Cartoon, Linus tells Charlie Brown, “When I hear those coyotes howling at night, it totally depresses me. I start to feel lonely . . . . Then I get scared.” Charlie Brown says, “I thought holding onto that blanket made you secure.” Linus replies, “I think the warranty has run out.”
Isn’t that true for us? We fear life, we fear death, and everything in between. The howling at night comes in many forms.
The cure to our fears is found in the coming of Jesus Christ into our world. The first words of Adam in the Garden of Eden were “I am afraid,” and we still carry that fear with us today. But the first words at the birth of Jesus are, “Don’t be afraid.”
Friends, we do not have to live our lives in fear. Love has been born among us.
As you move into 2024, don’t let the fear of what could be keep you from living the life God has for you in the present.
What one thing will you do in the new year that fear kept you from this past year?

Weekly Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
As we celebrate the birth of your son, Jesus Christ, let us be reminded of the words he spoke throughout his life: "Do not fear." Help us to fully trust in you and be unafraid during this Christmas season and into the New Year.
May we find comfort in knowing that you are always with us, guiding and protecting us. Help us remember that your love is greater than anything we may face.
We pray for those who are struggling with fear and anxiety this Christmas. May they find peace in your presence and in the fellowship of loved ones.
Thank you for your never-ending grace and sending us your son as a symbol of hope and love. As we celebrate his birth, let us live in the fullness of your love and embrace the joy and peace that come with it.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
