How do we live a meaningful life? How do we relate to others? What guides our choices? Perhaps the transformative power of humility can offer a pathway to better answering these questions—through less self-focus and more emphasis on serving others.
Jesus is our example of humility in choosing service to others over self. The apostle Paul highlights Jesus' humility when he says, "He made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!" (Philippians 2: 7 - 8).
Humility isn't about thinking less of ourselves but about focusing on ourselves less. It's about recognizing our strengths and acknowledging our limitations without feeling superior or inferior to others. This perspective is crucial in a world where we often measure success in terms of personal achievements and recognition.
By cultivating humility, individuals are more likely to put the needs of others before their own, listen more attentively, and approach the world with a sense of openness and curiosity.
The best way to cultivate humility is through quiet and mundane acts of service. Look for ways to serve your community without receiving recognition or public attention. Be attentive to the needs that exist around you. Keep your eyes and heart open to how you can lend a hand to someone.
"With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love" - Ephesians 4:2.

Love Our City by Caring for Our Neighbor
Weekly Prayer
Loving God, Guide our hands and hearts in daily acts of kindness that go unnoticed. Help us to support our neighbors, ease another's burden, and share a word of encouragement where it is needed most. May these small acts of service bring us closer to understanding the true meaning of humility.
Instill in us the patience to persevere, the resilience to continue, and the wisdom to see Your face in everyone we meet. Let us recognize our common humanity so that in the eyes of others, we might discover reflections of ourselves and of Your infinite love.
In the name of Jesus, our humble savior, we pray. Amen.
Wisdom Nugget: The quiet you cultivate through humble service speaks louder than the clamor for recognition. Let your actions reflect your values, not your vanity.
A Question to Consider: Who taught you the value of humility, and how do you practice it daily?
