God Climbs Down to Meet Us
As a follower of Jesus, we reflect on the questions presented in Psalm 24, “Who can ascend and who can stand?” and realize that we are not in a position to approach God because our hands are not clean and our hearts are not pure.
We can’t climb to God. So what does God do? God climbs down to us, becomes one with us. God stretches out on a cross and, with open arms, invites us into His holy presence.
God doesn’t sit on His throne waiting to receive our sacrificial offerings. Instead, God runs out to meet us, goes out like a Good Shepherd to find his lost sheep, and searches for every lost one of us until the holy place of God’s banquet hall is filled with sinners and saints.
And God is still climbing down to meet us, offering us forgiveness and extending to us his amazing grace. So when we gather to worship, it is a response to His gracious act of meeting us on a dead-end road and inviting us to walk with him into His holy presence.
