Be Clear On Expectations
A few years ago, I got invited to work on a community project, and the person who was attempting to persuade me to get involved said, “It is easy, and It won’t take up too much time.”
I was fooled.
It was very time-consuming. And not wanting to let anyone down, I had to stick with it until the end. However, the result was not excellent, and I felt that I had let down some of my other commitments.
The lesson I learned from that experience is to always be clear on expectations.
Jesus says, “Whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.” And then, he gives two examples of counting the cost before committing.
Jesus is refusing to lie to us. Instead, he wants us to know what it will cost to follow him.
It will always cost you something. And yet, the benefits are out of this world.
