A Christmas Story: Wonder Bread, Grape Gatorade, and a Traffic Stop (Story Continues)
Do you remember the story of when I served Wonder Bread and Gatorade for Christmas Eve Communion?
I forgot to mention that on the way back from the gas station, I got pulled over in my green Mitusbishi Eclipse for speeding. I was going too fast on Hwy 51 south, trying to get back before it was time to serve communion.
“Where you headed in such a hurry, young man?” the officer asked. “To serve communion, sir,” I responded. “Excuse me!” he said in disbelief. “I am the local United Methodist Church pastor, and I forgot to purchase the communion elements. So, I ran up to the gas station and got Wonder Bread and Gatorade,” I explained.
“Drive safe,” he replied while shaking his head and walking back to his patrol car. I am pretty sure he didn’t believe me. But it was Christmas Eve.
